About Us
Formed in April of 2001 by the Jefferson Arts Committee, The Jefferson Township Community Chorus has attracted many township adults, Jefferson Township High School students and alumni to its ranks over the years. Many members belong to church choirs and just want to branch out to more secular music.
With the start of the September 2010 season, The Chorus will be directed by Cherwyn Ambuter, M.M. from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati and a BA in Music from Tufts University. She also directs the a cappella group Zephyr Vocal Ensemble and serves as choral accompanist at the NJ Conservatory. Cherwyn is a warm and engaging person who has experience on "both sides of the baton" and knows what singers need and enjoy to sing their best and to have a wonderful time making delightful music. Margaret Brandell, a Jefferson Township resident, continues as the group’s Assistant Director and Accompanist and is a graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ.
The Chorus presents spring and winter concerts and performs at the annual Jefferson Township Day celebration, Christmas In the Village event, and other special events by invitation. Through the years they have sung traditional folk songs, Broadway show tunes, sacred music, ethnic tunes, popular songs, and classical music.
