What are you doing on the 4th Thursday of the month?

President Obama has urged all Americans to put community service first, and thousands across the country are answering that call to service and are taking action in their communities donating their limited resources and time to better their neighborhoods or strengthen a cause in whatever way they can.

If you are looking for a way to become an integral part of your Jefferson Township community, one thing you might want to consider is becoming a member of the Jefferson Arts Committee by volunteering your time and talents to make Jefferson Township even a better place to live and work.  No experience necessary, no fee to join, no outrageous commitments, just a desire to volunteer to make your community a better one, make some new acquaintances, and have some fun in the process.

The Jefferson Arts Committee is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1987 and is located in Jefferson Township (Morris County), New Jersey.  Over the years, seeing an interest in many areas of the arts, The Jefferson Community Players, The Jefferson Township Community Band, The Jefferson Township Community Chorus, and The Jefferson Township Gazebo Committee emerged from the JAC’s mission as sub-committees and are today sponsored under the umbrella of the Jefferson Arts Committee, Inc.   All the groups have a specific interest and operate successfully within the community.

Dedicated to the pursuit of cultural and artistic activities that include sponsoring concerts such as the recent West Point Jazz Knight’s concert performance, student artist programs, special choral and instrumental performances, art and photography shows, summer gazebo concerts, and theatrical performances, the JAC sponsors the township’s annual Jefferson Township Day celebration as well as Christmas in the Village.  This year, the JAC will be hosting Laughs Galore on March 13th featuring two versatile comedians/performers and The 1940’s Radio Show on April 18th, a look at life and entertainment during the World War II era.

The Jefferson Arts Committee usually meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Department of Persons with Disabilities’ Wiegand Farms all-purpose room located on Catholic Charities Way off Weldon Road at 7:30 PM.  The next meeting of the committee is on Thursday, February 26 and you’re invited to attend and find out what its all about and how you can get involved.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Jefferson Arts Committee or being involved with any of its events can do so by contacting President Carol Punturieri by telephone at (973) 697-3828 or by e-mail to artscommittee@jeffersonarts.org  Regular mail can also be sent to The Jefferson Arts Committee, PO Box 2604, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438

It’s your hometown; you can make it better, and get the satisfaction of doing something meaningful in and for your community.  It’s a good feeling – give it a try!
