Casting Notices for 2008

IMPORTANT NOTE: The performance of any of the plays listed here is subject to the ability to obtain a complete cast.   If a play listed here cannot be scheduled due to the inability to cast it, there are many full length or one act plays available, but are too numerous to list on this site. 

The aim of the Jefferson Community Players is to offer actors of all ages and levels of ability the opportunity to participate in a variety of productions. Please contact our President, Jean Simonson, 973-663-3340, to discuss your interests.   We also need directors and stage crews for these and many other productions.

Pride and Prejudice  (dramatized from Jane Austen’s novel by Jane Kendall)

5 men and 11 women, presented in 3 acts in 5 scenes (ages are approximations

Mr. Bennet – age range 40 to 60
Mrs. Bennet – age 40-49
Jane Bennet – age 20-25
Elizabeth Bennet  -  age 20 – 25
Mary Bennet – age 18-21
Catherine (“Kitty”) Bennet – age 16-18
Lydia Bennet – age 15-17
Lady Lucas – age 40-49
Charlotte Lucas – age 24-28
Mr. Bingley – age 22-27
Miss Bingley – 22-28
Mr. Darcy – age 24 – 29
Mr. Collins – age 27 – 32
Mr. Wickham – age 24 – 29
Hill – very flexible part of the Bennet’s servant.  Can be male or female and age can range from teenager to elderly person.  Hill is quiet, unobtrusive and efficient.
Lady Catherine – age 50’s to 70’s must have superior manner and regal presentation



Murder Play (a one act play by Brian J. Burton) possible production date March 2008

Suspense/Murder theme set in the English countryside.  2 men, 2 women,  ages can be flexible.

Peter Darrell -  age 25 – 35
Robyn Darrell  - age 25 – 35
Jane Valentine – age 40 – 50
David Valentine – age 45-55 (pretends to be dead for 4/5ths  of the play)



Juris Prudence (a one act comedy by Jason Milligan)  possible production date March 2008

2 women, 2 men, 1 boy, age 10 – 12.  The setting is in a room at the county courthouse, just moments before a highly-publicized trial begins.

Barney, a lawyer, 30s to early 40s
Prudence, his client, late 20s
Sun Downe – weather reporter for local tv station, late 20s to early 30s
Glum/Archibald –  2 roles for one actor, a homeless man and Prudence’s ex-husband,  age 30s-40s
The Boy – child between 10 and 12



Catch Me If You Can (full length 3 act play by Robert Thomas) murder/mystery

2 women,  5 men 

Daniel Corban – man (age 30s) who reports his wife is missing,
Inspector Levine – detective on the case (age 40-50)
Father Kelleher -  a priest (age can be from 30s to 50s)
Elizabeth Corban – woman who claims to be the missing wife (age 30s)
Sidney – deli owner who delivers to the house (age 40s – 50s)
Mrs. Parker -  age 30s – small speaking role
Mr. Parker – age 40s – 50s, small speaking role



Pilgrims (a one act play by Stephen Metcalfe)

1 man, age 40s, 2 female teens (16-19), 2 male teens (16 – 19)

This drama is a play about loss and renewal. Set in a pizza parlor run by a man who has not quite faced up to the grim fact that his son was killed in Vietnam. Helping him deal with his loss is a quirky teenaged waitress, a would-be actress who is just starting to come out of her own emotional shell.



I Remember Mama (adapted by John van Druten from Kathryn Forbes’ book, “Mama’s Bank Account”

Norwegian immigrant, Mama, with the help of her husband and Uncle Chris, brings up their children in their modest San Francisco home during the early 1900’s.  Mama’s sisters and uncle furnish a rich background for comedy and a bit of incidental tragedy, while the antics of the children keep everyone in pleasant turmoil.

Katrin (mature teenager (17-19 or a woman in early 20s who can appear in childhood scenes)

Aunt Trina – age late 30’s to early 40s)

Dr. Johnson – (male or female age flexible at least 25+)
Arne – young boy age flexible but at least age 9

Florence Dana Moorehead -  female, age flexible but at least 40+

The Lion in Winter (full length play by James Goldman)

5 men,  2 women – play about King Henry II of England, his Queen, Eleanor of Acquitaine, and their sons, Richard, Geoffrey and John.

Henry II  (age late 40s to mid 50s)
Eleanor of Acquitaine – (age 50s)
Richard age 30s
Geoffrey ages to mid 30s
John – age 20s
Phillip – age 20s
Alyce – age 20s
