The Richard Reiter Swing Band to perform in Jefferson Township Gazebo

The Jefferson Arts Committee will present its 2010 free summer Gazebo concert series with its second event on Friday evening, July 2nd beginning at 7 pm at the township gazebo located in the Jefferson Township Municipal Complex at 1033 Weldon Road.

For over twenty years the Richard Reiter Swing Band has delighted audiences at varied East Coast venues including museums, parks, nightclubs and First Night celebrations. The band performs familiar standards from the swing era and features Reiter on saxophone, clarinet and flute, plus vocalist Tricia Slafta, accompanied by keyboard, bass and drums. Repertoire includes: "Our Love is Here to Stay," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "As Time Goes By,” "Sing Sing Sing," "Jump Jive an' Wail.” The audience is invited to both listen and dance to their exciting music.

Reiter, an EMMY Award winning composer, has performed as guest jazz saxophone soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, featured artist on PBS television, on-stage clarinet soloist in Bob Fosse's Broadway musical "Dancin'," and backup for such notables as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Nancy Wilson.

Of Reiter's group, Gil Perlroth wrote in the Westport (Connecticut) News: "Focused around Richard Reiter's soaring sax and Tricia Slafta's beautiful voice, the Richard Reiter Swing Band has a great feel for this music...the audience cheered and gave them a standing ovation."

Sponsored by the Jefferson Township Public Library, the concert will be moved to the Jefferson Township High School Auditorium (1010 Weldon Road) in the event of inclement weather. Please call 973-697-3828 for weather updates.

Bring along a blanket/chair for your comfort. Non-alcoholic beverages, picnic dinners, and snacks arepermitted unless the concerts are moved indoors due to weather conditions!
