Enjoy all the entertainment at Christmas in the Village
Christmas in the Village will be celebrated in Jefferson Township beginning with the lighting of the township Christmas tree on Friday evening, December 4, 2009; and it will continue on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 at many venues in the municipality, orchestrated by the Jefferson Arts Committee and many volunteers. With free admission at the majority of events, free parking, and free shuttle service between most venues on Saturday, it is sure to be a weekend filled with live entertainment, exciting activities, shopping, food, and refreshments.
The entertainment schedule is as follows. Look for updates and a final program with times online at www.jeffersonarts.org or www.jeffersontownship.net (Departments-Recreation and Events links), and program brochures will be available at the Jefferson Township Public Library, the Municipal Building, and the Camp Jefferson display racks as well as distributed the day of the event at all venues.
Friday, December 4
Jefferson Township Gazebo – 1033 Weldon Road: Free performance by the Jefferson Township Middle School Chorus under the direction of Joan Lucas, and a reading of the classic “The Night Before Christmas.” Mayor Russ Felter’s 2009 Citizens of the Year Marge Babich and Larry Parr will participate in the lighting of the Township Christmas Tree, and Santa himself will arrive at Town Hall on his sleigh pulled by Jefferson Township Fire Company No. 1’s fire truck! All activities coordinated by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department will begin at 7 PM.
Saturday, December 5
St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church – 153 Milton Road: Free performances by the Jefferson Township Middle School Band under the direction of Lauren Kulick at 10 AM, Voices in the Wilderness under the direction of Steve Iannacone at 11 AM, the Jefferson Township High School Madrigal Singers under the direction of James Wynne at 12:30 PM, and the Jefferson Township High School Band under the direction of Richard Barrieres at 1:30 PM. At 3 PM, the Jefferson Township Community Band will present their annual Christmas Concert under the direction of Pete Tummillo, and a $5 donation is requested at the door.
Jefferson Township Senior Center – 54 Schoolhouse Road: Free performances by the Jefferson Community Players of “A Little Princess”, a 30-minute play based upon the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett at 10:30 AM, 2 PM, and 3 PM. Victorian Tea Services offered at 11:15 AM and 1 PM seatings - $5 per person by reservation only by calling 973-697-2750 before November 30th to reserve seats for the Tea.
American Legion Post #423 – 28 Legion Road: Free performances by the Arthur Stanlick School Chorus and ensembles at 10 AM, the White Rock School Band and Chorus at 11 AM, The Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church’s Wandering Troubadours (Nancy Harm & Dave McDonald) with guitars at 12:30 PM, and a Brownie Girl Scout holiday sing-a-long at 1:30 PM.
Jefferson Township Museum – 315 Dover Milton Road: With the museum decorated with the theme “An Audubon Christmas”, free performances to include the playing of the harmonium by Dianna Filan at 10 AM, George Pantelides at 11 AM, Margaret Brandell with Jeff See on the guitar at 12 noon, Dianna Filan again at 1 PM, and at 2 PM, the Berkshire Valley Presbyterian Choir will sing around the harmonium.
Jefferson Township Public Library – 1030 Weldon Road: Free performance by Ricochet, a Sweet Adeline Barbershop Quartet performing a holiday themed show plus a sing-a-long at 2PM.
Camp Jefferson – 81 Weldon Road: The Recreation Department presents its annual visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the Community Lodge, and the Jefferson Consolidated PTA Holiday Shoppe in the Recreation Hall.
Sunday, December 6
Jefferson Township Museum – 315 Dover Milton Road: With the museum decorated with the theme “An Audubon Christmas”, free performances to include the playing of the harmonium by Kevin Lynch at 12 noon, a choral performance by The Brown Sisters Trio at 1 PM, and historical poetry readings by members of the Six Centuries Club and Sensations Magazine – American Poetry 1866-1870 at 1:30 PM, 1871-1880 at 2 PM, and 1881-1890 at 2:30 PM.
Milton United Methodist Church – Dover Milton Road: Concerts in the Sanctuary present the Jefferson Township Community Chorus under the direction of Patricia Cole with Assistant Director/Accompanist Margaret Brandell in concert at 3:30 PM. Tickets are $12 for Adults/$10 for senior citizens and students/Free for children 12 and under and available in advance from the Church (Doug at 973-697-2120) or any Chorus member (Margaret at 973-697-6659) and at the door as space permits.
